  • Festival of Young Preachers

    Campbellsville University students are continuing to gain servant leadership experience through a variety events and activities, and five students from the Campbellsville University School of Theology recently attended three days of the Festival of Young Preachers in Louisville.

    Campbellsville students not only attended the event but also raised the bar by bringing the largest group.

  • World Day of Prayer service is March 5

    Friday, March 5 is World Day of Prayer 2010.

    Women, men and children in more than 170 countries and regions will join in this annual celebration.

    This year's theme is "Let everything that has breath praise God." The program is written by the women of Camaroon.

    A special service will be at 7 p.m. at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which is on Old Columbia Road, about five miles from Campbellsville.

    Members of all churches are invited.

  • Grace Notes: Faith that takes a licking

    I spent most of last Sunday afternoon in my recliner chair reading about an overweight, out of shape guy who decided to go to Peru and hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

    He did it because he wanted to impress a girl who was also going on the trip. When he learned how strenuous the trip would be, because he didn't want to weenie out in front of the girl, he started working out.

    A few months ago I joined a new gym, which is challenging me physically. I'm not training for a hike or anything, just a healthier life.

  • Socks for inmates

    Campbellsville Christian Church donated 200 pairs of socks for inmates at the Taylor County Detention Center. They were handed out on Christmas Eve along with another 200 pairs of socks from Greater Campbellsville United.     I'm currently reading "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" by Don Miller.

    He wrote "Blue Like Jazz," which continues to be the best Christian book I've ever read, although not for its literary merit. The book is random and messy, but Miller's thoughts are raw and profound.

    His new book begins with a movie producer wanting to turn "Blue Like Jazz" into a movie, but he tells Miller that the book as is wouldn't make a compelling or interesting movie because his real life is boring.

  • DivorceCare class begins Jan. 10 at Campbellsville Baptist

    Campbellsville Baptist Church will begin a new session of DivorceCare on Sunday, Jan. 10.

    DivorceCare is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. It's a place where those who are separated or divorced can be around people who understand what they are feeling. During DivorceCare classes, participants can hear valuable information about ways to heal from the hurt of divorce.

    Classes will meet each Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 10. For more information, or to enroll, call the church office at 465-8115.

    When I met my husband he drove a totally hot car, a brand-new 1973 Mercury Comet GT, white with burnt orange pinstripes and burnt orange interior.

    And it had a manual transmission.

    Because we were young and newly in love and Barry had miles of patience, he attempted to teach me to drive it. It helped that we lived in Northern Maine, where there wasn't much to crash into except snow banks and caribou.

  • Angel Food Ministry begins in January

    Campbellsville now has two local host sites for the Angel Food Ministry - The Rock Community Worship Center and St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

    The goal of the ministry is to feed people, honor God and share the gospel of Christ.

    January is the first month to place orders. Orders can be placed online at www.angelfoodministries.com.

    Those wishing to purchase food may follow the online directions or place an order locally with St. Mark's or The Rock before Jan. 12. Food pick-up will be Jan. 23.

  • First United Methodist to offer 'The Grand Sweep'

    First United Methodist Church will offer "The Grand Sweep," a program that reads through the entire Bible in a year.

    Participants' understanding of the Bible will increase and their faith will grow stronger.

    One-hour classes will meet at 6:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. The cost is $12 for the companion book, "The Grand Sweep."

    Reading will begin on Jan. 1. Stop by the church office for the reading schedule. This opportunity is open to people of all faiths.

  • Ladies' study begins Jan. 13 at Campbellsville Christian Church

    Campbellsville Christian Church's Women's Ministry Team will present a ladies' study beginning Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

    This is a nine-week video-driven study on "The Inheritance" by Beth Moore.

    The study encourages participants to let go of the reigns in their lives and say "You know what, I am going on with you God."

    Women in the community are invited to come and learn what it means to live and walk in the lines that have fallen for them in pleasant places.

    Those planning to attend should RSVP to the church office at 465-5571 by Jan. 6.
