Recently, I wrote a story for the newspaper about a young couple from France who flew from Paris to Miami and then set out to walk to Argentina.

They came through my community on their way north to the Florida panhandle, then west to Texas and down to Mexico, Central America and South America. They estimate they'll get to the tip of Argentina in about two years.

Kentucky Baptists will focus on the urgent need to share the good news of God's love during the 171st Kentucky Baptist Convention annual meeting Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington.

The annual meeting will include an address by 30-year-old mega church pastor David Platt, senior pastor at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Ala. in its final session on Tuesday night as well as the election of new convention officers and an address by Convention President Bill Henard.

Earlier today, I talked with my Aunt Gladys. In our family she's the matriarch, my mom's older sister.

She never married and in many ways considers her 12 nieces and nephews her children. She's the one who introduced us to such things as putting garnish on dinner plates (we always called parsley "garni"), dressing up to go to "the city" (San Francisco) and ordering in a fine dining restaurant.

Once it was my cousin Maureen's and my turn to go out to eat, and Maureen decided that she would have "chatty obrien bookaterry."

Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Green County is hosting an all-you-can-eat country ham supper this weekend to help raise money for its building fund.

The event will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. ET at the church.

Guests will be seated by a hostess and served family style. The meal will consist of country ham, red eye gravy, mashed potatoes, home-grown green beans, coleslaw, fried apples and homemade biscuits along with homemade jams and jellies. Drinks are included.

Church members will also be performing gospel music for visitors to enjoy before and after their meal.
