  • Campbellsville Christian to show 'Fireproof'

    "Fireproof" will be shown at Campbellsville Christian Church on Sunday evening at 6 in the sanctuary and again on Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

    "Fireproof" is the story of a firefighter who lives by the code to never leave a partner behind - except in his marriage. Through a challenge by his father, the firefighter begins a 40-day love dare to win his wife's affection back.

    In the newsroom we have a counter where people put doughnuts and cookies for everyone to share.

    Today someone set out a container of humungous cookies. Each cookie is 480 calories with 23 grams of fat. For those keeping score, one cookie is 12 Weight Watchers points, which is more than half my daily allotment.

  • Celebrate Recovery program begins Thursday

    Celebrate Recovery will begin a new session today at First United Methodist Church, located on Main Street in Campbellsville.

    The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and childcare is available.

    Celebrate Recovery is a biblical based 12-step program for people older than 18 who have hurts, habits or hang-ups.

  • CU dinner theater raises money for mission trips

    "The theme of this year's Baptist Campus Ministry is love, truth and action. Because so many great people came to support this year's dinner theater, CU students can now live out the theme through various missions trips this spring break," said Emily Bryant, a junior from Louisville.

    Bryant is fundraising coordinator for BCM. She spoke during Campbellsville University's 15th annual Baptist Campus Ministry dinner theater Friday, Feb. 6.

  • Pickett's Chapel hosting youth revival

    Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church will host a spring youth revival from Sunday, March 9 through Friday, March 13.

    Services will begin nightly at 7:30 ET.

    The evangelist will be Pastor Eric Gilbert, and special music and drama is planned. A line-up of performances follows.

    - Monday, March 9 - Benson Sexton and St. Andrew's youth team.

    - Tuesday, March 10 - Behind the Cross and 20/20 from Elk Horn Baptist.

    - Wednesday, March 11 - First Service Band and Columbia Baptist Creative Ministry team.

  • On the wings of pigs

    A few years ago I wrote about seeing a pig fly. What I meant by that was seeing the surprising answer to a prayer, something I thought I'd only see "when pigs fly." In other words, never.

    But God seems to delight in never and impossible. A woman who called the newsroom last week reminded me of that.

    She didn't want her name in the paper, but she wanted to tell someone her story. Someone who would believe her and not laugh at her. Someone who believes that God can and does do strange and wonderful and impossibly improbable things.

  • March auditions slated for KBC All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra

    Kentucky Baptist high school students seeking to refine their musical talents can audition for the Kentucky Baptist All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra on March 7 or 14.

    Auditions will take place at six locations across Kentucky on both dates. High school students who have completed grades 9-12 and are active members of a Kentucky Baptist Convention church are eligible to participate.
