  • Lowell Avenue Baptist hosts community Sunday night services in August

    Lowell Avenue Baptist Church is moving its Sunday night services out into the community during August.

    This Sunday, Lowell Avenue will host a service at Grandview Nursing Home, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

    On Sunday, Aug. 23, the service will be at 6:30 p.m. at Campbellsville University.

    And on Sunday, Aug. 30, a gathering at Green River is planned. The event will take place at the campgrounds pavilion from 2 to 9 p.m. with a meal at 4 p.m.

    There is nothing natural about stepping off the platform of a 60-foot tower into nothing but thin air and adrenaline. I came to that conclusion the hard way some time ago when I took my first leap of faith into the world of bungee jumping.

    We made a quick trip to Tennessee that weekend to see a friend graduate from college and decided to spend the night. My wife and boys wanted to go into Gatlinburg the next morning, and I unenthusiastically gave in.

  • Elk Horn Baptist opens Wings of Angels Closet

    Elk Horn Baptist Church has opened Wings of Angels Clothes Closet, where adults and children in need can receive clothing and shoes.

    The closet is open every Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. However, if a need arises beyond those hours, recipients may call and someone will meet them there.

    The closet will also accept donations of good clothing and shoes during its open hours.

  • Campbellsville Baptist to host 'No Man Left Behind'

    Campbellsville Baptist Church will host a No Man Left Behind event on Saturday, Aug. 8.

    Gary Gupton will be the guest speaker for the event. Gupton is the CEO of Integrity Media Network, and a play-by-play announcer for the Fox Sports Network, Insight Communication and the Big Blue Sports Network. He is anchor for a weekly television show "The Red and Blue Review," covering University of Kentucky and University of Louisville sports teams.

    Dinner, which costs $5, will be served at 6 p.m. Also, a cornhole tournament is planned for 4 p.m. and a car show at 4:30.

  • Locals take missionary trip to Mexico

    On July 9, six members of Broadway Church of Christ left Taylor County for eight days of missionary and ministry work in the Baja region of Mexico.

    The group consisted of Jim and Tammie Collins, Margie Huffman, Susan Ryan and Steve and Patty Reynolds.

    They flew to San Diego, Calif., where they met with other Christians in their faith from Greenville, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., and Huntsville, Ala. The group took chartered buses to Ensenada, Mexico, and from there they continued south on Baja Mission buses, vans and trucks to San Quintin, Mexico.

  • Saloma Baptist to celebrate its ministry Aug. 23

    Saloma Baptist Church is celebrating 58 years of Christian ministry on Sunday, Aug. 23.

    The day's services include Sunday school at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., a noon potluck meal and fellowship time and a gospel concert at about 1:15 p.m. featuring Sola Grace.

    Sola Grace is a gospel group made up of several Campbellsville University alumni including Saloma's former music minister.

    The church is located at 1505 W. Saloma Road (KY 744 West) about 5 miles north of Campbellsville.

  • St. Mark hosting Miraculous Mondays

    St. Mark United Methodist Church is hosting a Back to School Blast and Miraculous Mondays program each Monday in August.

    The program is open to all children in grades kindergarten through six.

    The events are every Monday in August from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

    How fast summer flies. Why is it that the three summer months turn into a blur, while winter drags on for weeks? This is another one of those questions for which there may be no answer.
