  • Pleasant Hill GAs celebrate Christmas in August

    Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Girls in Action recently celebrated Christmas in August.

    This is an annual mission project where the girls select a missionary to help. This year's missionary is Grace McGraw in Birmingham, Ala. McGraw requested school supplies for the children's after-school program.

    Pleasant Hill Baptist Church members donated to the cause.

  • OLPH to host Stormin' Heaven!

    Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will host "Stormin' Heaven!" - a praise and worship event featuring The Hinges, a Christian praise and worship band.

    The event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, which is located at the corner of University Drive and North Central Avenue.

    Guests of all faiths are welcome to come and for praise and worship music, guided meditation and a witness talk.

    In Genesis 2, we can read that God brought the trees up from the earth; trees that were good for food and beautiful to the landscape.

    God gave us the bing cherries, sweet limes, possibly all 16 varieties of bananas found in South America, coconuts, maybe the wide variety of apples found throughout the United States, grapefruit, kiwi, date figs and so many more. The orchards that stretched across the Garden of Eden controlled the landscape indeed.

  • CU hosts president of Kentucky Baptist Convention

    "How much you matter to God." That was the message given by Dr. John Mark Toby, president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, at Campbellsville University's Sept. 9 chapel in Ransdell Chapel.

    Toby is also first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention and pastor of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset.

    Two students from his church, Gencie Taylor and Brandon Todd, are freshmen at Campbellsville University, and each gave student testimonies.

  • Choirs to join for worship and praise event

    On Saturday night, Ransdell Chapel will be bursting with melody and harmony when the Graves Family and East Campbellsville Church of God choirs come together for a night of singing, entertainment and praise.

    Both choirs will perform their own selections as well as combine their talents. The music variety will include hymns and modernized versions of hymns, contemporary Christian and jazzy selections.

    "We're doing this for one reason - to glorify the Lord," says Robbie Spencer, pastor of East Campbellsville Church of God.

  • Campmeeting begins Sunday

    A campmeeting will begin on Sunday at Acton Retreat Center and continue from Wednesday.

    A schedule of events includes:

    - Sunday - Corn hole and youth pizza party, 6:30 p.m. ET; and worship led by the Lindsey Wilson College Awakening Team and Praise Band at 7:30 p.m.

    - Monday - Gary Shepherd, formerly with the Kingsmen, in concert at 6:30 p.m.; and the Rev. Paul Fryman leading worship at 7:30.

    - Tuesday - The Campbellsville Emmaus Community will be recognized. The Rev. James Jones will lead worship at 7:30 p.m.

  • Flatwoods Separate Baptist to host camp meeting

    Flatwoods Separate Baptist Church will host its 16th annual campmeeting this weekend.

    A line-up of evangelists and musicians follows.

    - Tomorrow - Bro. Charles Cook of Morgantown at 10 a.m.; Bro. Gerald England of Sparta, Tenn., at 2 p.m.; and Bro. Timmy Shirley of Greensburg at 6:30 p.m. Friendship Baptist Church of Jonesville, Ky. will provide music during the 6:30 p.m. service.

  • Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian to host revival beginning Sunday

    Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host revival services beginning Sunday morning, Oct. 4.

    The Rev. Kevin Brantley will be the evangelist. On Sunday, Oct. 4, the Spirit Seekers from Lebanon will be in concert during the 11 a.m. service.

    Preaching services begin Sunday night at 7 and will continue each evening at 7 through Wednesday.

    Special music through the week will be provided by Tommy Davenport, Jessica Merritt and Sparkie Taylor.

    Alan Calhoun is a person with whom I can easily relate. We're both the kind of guys who can look back to recognize a great opportunity five minutes after it has knocked its final knock and gone next door.

    Calhoun lives in Bristol, Conn. with his wife in their home, which they hoped to redecorate a year or more ago. They looked all over for just the right accoutrements to add that touch of class and "Martha Stewart-esque" hominess that they were looking for.

  • Corn hole tournament is Saturday

    Mannsville United Methodist Church will host a corn hole tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.

    Registration begins at noon. Entry fee is $20 per team. Prizes will be $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third.

    All proceeds will go to the church's building fund.
