  • CU to host 'Think Again About Small Groups' workshop

    Is your church in need of re-thinking discipleship?

    Campbellsville University and the Kentucky Baptist Convention are sponsoring a "Think Again ... about Small Groups" workshop, Saturday, Nov. 7 at Ransdell Chapel.

    "Think Again ... about Small Groups" is a workshop designed to allow church leaders to rethink the way they are doing ministry. The event will focus on small group discipleship. The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    One of the things I miss most about living in California is the Pacific Ocean.

     

    This past weekend I was at Cocoa Beach and although I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the beach and watching the waves, when it comes to ocean waves, compared to the Pacific, the Atlantic wimps out.

  • Pleasant Union to celebrate pastor's anniversary

    Pleasant Union Baptist Church will host a fifth anniversary celebration for Pastor Michael Caldwell on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

     

    The Rev. Donnie Walkup will be the morning speaker, and a lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.

     

    Afternoon guests will be members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Greensburg and the Rev. Emmanuel Young as guest preacher.

     

    Everyone is invited to attend.

  • Women's retreat is Oct. 23-24

    South Campbellsville Baptist Church's Women's Ministry will host Sweet Life Cafe Women's Retreat on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24 at Acton Community Center.

    The cost to attend is $20 per lady, with a $5 discount if registered by Oct 16. Retreat hours are from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

    Dinner on Friday as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday will be provided.

  • Fundraiser for pregnancy center is Oct. 24

    A cookout on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Walmart Supercenter will benefit the Central Kentucky Crisis Pregnancy Center.

    The menu will include smoked pulled pork barbecue, tenderloin, hamburgers and hot dogs.

    The meal, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will be served at no cost, though a free will offering will be accepted. Everyone will eat regardless of their ability to give.

    Organizers will also be accepting baby items.

    The last time I was in an airport, I picked up the book "How to Talk to Anyone." It promised 92 little "tricks" for big success in relationships.

    Because my job involves talking to people, or more importantly getting them to talk to me, I bought the book.

    The author, Leil Lowndes, also wrote "How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You." I think the author may have used some crossover material from her other book in this one because trick No. 3 is "How to use your eyes to make someone fall in love with you."

  • International Gospel Lighthouse to celebrate homecoming this weekend

    International Gospel Lighthouse will be celebrating its 18-year anniversary with homecoming services on Saturday through Monday, Oct. 17-19.

    Services begin nightly at 7.

    Sis. Matera Bumpus from Birmingham, Ala. will be the guest speaker.

    The church is located at 99 Lighthouse Road (KY 70) in the Acton community, six miles southeast of Campbellsville.

  • Walk for Holy Innocents is Oct. 31

    Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church is hosting its third annual Walk for the Holy Innocents in Taylor County.

    The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Central Kentucky County Crisis Pregnancy Center, located at 319 E. Maple St.

    After hearing from a few brief speakers, attendees will walk about a mile in supporter of the dignity of human life. The walk will end with a reception at OLPH parish hall.

    Everyone in the community is invited to take part.

    The Garry Polston Family will be in concert Sunday, Nov. 1 at Asbury United Methodist Church. The Kentucky-based group presents a variety of gospel music from old hymns and familiar gospel songs to arrangements written by members of the group. They also play several instruments. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. ET. Asbury is located near the Taylor/Adair county line.
