Five Taylor County children will perform with the Kentucky Baptist All State Children's Choirs next month.

Madison Lauer, Micah Lauer, Kristen Smith, Whitney Smith and Sydney Tucker of Campbellsville Baptist Church make up a portion of the "East Choir."

This year, 131 boys and girls from 39 churches are expected to participate in the All State Children's Choirs on May 1. Performances are free.

The East and West choirs are comprised of students in grades four through six who auditioned for the group.

I was at one of my favorite restaurants when I noticed the man sitting at another table, eating with his wife and three young children. He was a big, raw-boned, burly guy who towered over me when I walked by him, both of us on our way to sit down. He plopped onto his chair, perhaps exhausted from work. I slid into the booth with my wife.

That's when I took a good look at him. Stern-faced and serious, he cast what seemed like an intimidating aura over his family as they ate together.

Freedom Baptist Church will celebrate its ninth anniversary with special activities on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Pastor Larry Frisby said the gift for a ninth wedding anniversary is pottery, and just as Jesus is a potter, the church has undergone a transformation.

"We're allowing the 'Potter' - Jesus - to remake us," Frisby said.

The church's transformation has many facets, he said, from its building to its ministry.

Stoner Creek United Methodist Church youth group members rang the bell for the Salvation Army at Walmart on Dec. 21.

They also went grocery shopping at Kroger and delivered food to three families.

Later, they went Christmas caroling to shut-ins and at the nursing home.
