    Brenda Allen, city clerk, beat 25-year Councilman Al Hardy by 102 votes and will move no more than 20 feet by January to assume her new leadership role as mayor.

    Wendell R. Cox, 60, of Campbellsville, died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville after an illness.

    Marine Corps Pvt. Caleb Nathaniel Foster recently completed 12 weeks of basic military training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

    Crisis Relief Center volunteers were recognized last week for their dedication to meeting the basic needs of Taylor Countians.

    Golda DeSpain, 85, of McClelland Court in Campbellsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Lebanon.

    Cordie Chappell, 68, of Sunset Drive in Campbellsville, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Campbellsville.

    Taylor County High School sophomore Shane O'Banion, 15, captured two championships at the Pepsi Kentucky State Motocross Championships at Daniel Boone Motocross Park in London on Sept. 28.

    Thomas H. Hazzard of Campbellsville completed a degree at Western Kentucky University in August 2002. He received a Master of Arts in education.

    The Taylor County Marching Cardinals had the second highest score in the KMEA Class A West Quarter finals on Saturday at Daviess County High School in Owensboro.

    Shelby Bradley will celebrate her 6th birthday on Oct. 25.

    A group of ladies at Jackson Tower donated their time to assist in completing tasks for the Leo Bear project.

    Agatha Aline Skaggs, 80, of Bell Avenue in Campbellsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Green Hill Manor Nursing Home.

    William Morrison of Bill's Camper Sales in Campbellsville was recently presented with the Gold Leader Award for Outstanding Dixon ZTR mower sales for 2002.

    Unemployment rates fell in 84 Kentucky counties between August 2001 and August 2002, rose in 32 and remained the same in four counties, according to the Department of Employment Services, a Cabinet for Workforce Development Agency. Kentucky's seasonally adjusted jobless rate in August was 5.2 percent.

    Sarah Ewing of Campbellsville celebrated her 12th birthday on Sept. 17 at Phillips Lanes with family and friends.

    On Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, Taylor County FFA had its third annual greenhouse ceremony.

    Diane Creason has been named the State Farm "Good Neighbor" for August.

    Ophilia McDonald of Taylor County turned 92 on Oct. 1. Her family has planned a birthday celebration at her home on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m.

    Sept. 26, 2002

    More than 20 arts and crafts exhibits will be on display at the Janice Holt Giles home Oct. 5.

    The Taylor County Marching Cardinals Band won first place Saturday in Class A-3 at the Pulaski County Invitational Marching Band Contest.

    Frog Wilson was honored recently by the Downtown Business Association for his years of service as a merchant on Main Street. Caulk Hardware will be moving in the fall.

    Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers was among those honored recently for their contributions toward preventing and treating substance abuse in Kentucky.

    Traver Dabney has been admitted to the professional program in Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine as a member of the class of 2006.

    The Saloma Road Homemakers met Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Extension Office.

    A bird found at Campbellsville Country Club has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

    Will and Geri Stephens will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 5 with a recommitment wedding ceremony at 2 p.m.

    Pvt. William Thomas Hoy has finished his basic training for the National Guard in Fort Leonardwood, Mo.

    Taylor County High School Marching Band took third place at the Shelby County Showcase of Bands on Saturday.

    Terry Rooker has joined Wave Length, 815 W. Main St., as a beautician. She has four years' experience.

    Coach Brian Meier's Taylor County Lady Cardinals posted victories in their five varsity soccer matches this fall.
