    May 16, 2002

    Bonnie Mikel, 50, of Miller Road in Campbellsville, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, as a result of an automobile crash.

    Taylor County Middle School eighth-grade chorus recently received a distinguished rating at the Kentucky Music Educator Association's Regional Choral Festival held at John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.

    Elkhorn United Methodist Church will host a fish fry and gospel singing on Saturday at Acton Retreat Center.

    Bill Underwood retired from New York Southern Railroad after 30 years of service.

    The Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky has made a donation in remembrance of the late Hattie Louise Lee Brown to the scholarship fund.

    Bus drivers Norris McCawley and Roger Williams are retiring from Taylor County Schools.

    Josh Tucker and Summer Roberts were honored with a wedding shower on Saturday, April 20.

    Nineteen forty-nine was the first year of the sport shirt.

    Hatcher-Mitchell became Mitchell's Men's Wear and is one of the oldest continuing businesses in Campbellsville.

    SSG Alan Arvin Pike, a 1975 graduate of Campbellsville High School, retired at the United States Army Center at Fort Knox in a ceremony hosted by Brigadier General Bernardo C. Negrete, Deputy Commanding General, on March 29.

    Artie Taylor, 95, of Rosecrest Avenue in Campbellsville, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Metzmeier Nursing Home in Campbellsville after an illness.

    April 25, 2002

    Sunday night's unexpected windstorm at about 11 p.m. in the Saloma Road area did some major damage to homes and barns, but no injuries were reported.

    Shane Wilds has been named a United States National Award winner in physical education and leadership and service.

    On April 11, the Taylor County Future Farmers of America Chapter attended the Western Kentucky University Field Day. Throughout the day, members competed in several contests.

    University of Kentucky freshman John "J.B." Holmes captured his second straight collegiate golf tournament title by winning the Marshall Invitational over the weekend in Huntington, W.Va.

    Willie Chloe Pope Bottoms, 92, of Springfield, died on Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    At least 8,000 trees will be given away during Campbellsville's annual Arbor Day Celebration on Sunday.
