    Sept. 25, 2003

    Motorists traveling between Hodgenville and Campbellsville last Friday received a pleasant surprise when the State Highway Department opened the new KY 210 to traffic.

    Ray Minor, 59, of Sandpiper Circle in Campbellsville, died Friday, Sept. 19, in Campbellsville.

    Deanna Cox and Todd McCubbin, representing Taylor County Future Farmers of America, were named king and queen for last Friday's fall homecoming at Taylor County High School.

    Sept. 18, 2003

    Marie Merritt was awarded the "Forget-Me-Not Volunteer of the Year Award" On Friday, Sept. 5. She was nominated by Mary Ann Brown, activity director of Medco Nursing Home.

    Campbellsville High School's marching band finished second in class A1 at the 2003 Governor's Gold Cup Marching Band Festival at Elizabethtown High School on Saturday night.

    Donald "Duck" Cox, 60, of 172 Wise Road in Campbellsville, died on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, in Campbellsville.

    Taylor Regional Hospital celebrated its 30th anniversary by holding an open house in the new construction addition on Sunday.

    Gov. Paul E. Patton accepted a check Tuesday for $30,000 from Coca-Cola Bottlers of Kentucky. The money will go to support the Governor's Scholars program.

    Tebbs Bend is becoming known for more than just its Civil War history. It's also the place to go for a 3-mile flea market.

    Edward "Bear" Barnett, 90, of Stone Quarry Road in Campbellsville, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in Campbellsville.

    Lori Kaye Loy and Darrell David Davis will exchange wedding vows on Sept. 12.

    Aug. 28, 2003

    Duane and Beth Osborne of Panama City, Fla., announce the birth of a daughter, Lily Anne, at 5:37 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City.

    For the 10th consecutive year, Campbellsville University has been named to U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" issue.

    Carldon and Prentice Followell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 17.

    A ribbon was cut Aug. 12, commemorating the opening of a new County Barn at 107 Pleasant Drive near UPS.

    Kristian Herron, Brittany Pelly and Danielle Williams, all juniors at Taylor County High School, recently returned from Somerset where they participated in the Center for Rural Development's Rogers Scholars program.

    Barbara Dicken is the winner of the Walmart/Central Kentucky News-Journal college care package giveaway. Dicken will be giving the goodies to Jessica Hutcherson and Jennifer Hutcherson, who are students at Western Kentucky University.

    Walter Spurling will celebrate his 75th birthday on Sunday, Aug. 17.

    The Peterson reunion was Sunday, July 27, at Acton Campground with 49 attending and a potluck lunch served.

    Trent Jones celebrated his sixth birthday on July 13 with family and friends.

    Stefanie Davis Wood of Elk Horn was one of 26 Kentuckians awarded Cabinet for Workforce Development Education Pays Scholarships on July 14.

    Navy Chief Petty Officer William G. Woodrum is currently assigned to the Navy's newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, recently commissioned at Norfolk Naval Station in Norfolk, Va.

    Tommy and Pauline Browning of Campbellsville will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 3 with a reception.

    MaKenzie DeSpain celebrated her sixth birthday with friends at ABC Child Care in Campbellsville on June 19.

    On July 14, Kentucky Historian Laureate Dr. Thomas D. Clark celebrated his 100th birthday.
