    Lillie Poynter Woodrum celebrated her 80th birthday on Wednesday, Jan. 9, with a gathering of family and friends at Metzmeier Nursing Home.

    Navy Airman Richard L. Russell, son of Richard and Madonna Russell and grandson of Olin Hall, all of Campbellsville, was one of the American sailors participating in the Atlantic Phase of Unitas.

    Leva Pike, 74, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Westlake Regional Hospital emergency room in Columbia.

    Roy L. Seaborne Sr., 86, of Meadowview Court in Campbellsville, died on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in Campbellsville.

    Taylor County Republican Women's Club donated $100 to the American Red Cross.

    The Central Kentucky News-Journal received 13 awards at the Kentucky Press Association's Winter Convention on Thursday and Friday in Lexington.

    Campbellsville resident Dan Flanagan is retiring from the Kentucky Soybean Association after nine years.

    Carrying signs and singing "Oh, Happy Day," marchers braced the cold winds and lingering snowdrifts on Sunday to honor the slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Sarah E. Raikes, former family and consumer sciences instructor at Campbellsville High School, has been named the ACTE/McDonald's National Outstanding Teacher in Community Service by the Association for Career and Technical Education.

    Billie Parrish, 70, of Old Greensburg Road in Campbellsville, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Louisville.

    Taylor County High School Cheerleading squad recently participated in the CANAM Challenge Cup Competition at Campbellsville University.

    Campbellsville High School will host two financial aid workshops during the month of January at the CHS Library.

    Call it a Christmas miracle. Local schools went into Christmas break without having missed any days because of winter weather conditions.

    With her new luggage and a set of Eeyore pajamas, Taylor County's Junior Miss is ready for next weekend's state competition. Sarah Reynolds will compete with 34 other girls for the title of Kentucky Junior Miss on Jan. 11 and 12. She leaves for Lexington tomorrow.

    Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue Deputy Chief Mike Ramsey was in charge of this year's rescue awards. As usual, he was given the name of this year's recipient for the Rescuer of the Year Award. Then the winner was announced. It wasn't the name Ramsey had been given, instead it was Ramsey himself.

    Campbellsville businesses can expect broadband internet access during the first quarter of 2002.

    Margaret Stewart recently retired from the Taylor County Public Library after 21 years of service.

    The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators announced that Laura Milburn, R.N., has achieved certified diabetes educator status by successfully completing the certification examination for diabetes educators.

    Valerie Giles Gamboa recently graduated from the nursing program at Eastern Kentucky University.

    Rudolph and Dorothy Houk will celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

    Charles M. Jones, 83 of Snow Lane in Campbellsville died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Campbellsville.

    James R. Bell, 83 of Reids Chapel Road in Campbellsville died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 in Glasgow. He served on city council from 1962 until 1982.

    Pastor Paul W. Patton will retire as senior pastor of the Campbellsville Christian Church Dec. 30.

    James and Juanita Shofner will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 16.

    Campbellsville High School concert band will present its annual Christmas concert on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Hamilton auditorium.

    The Campbellsville Women's Club is getting ready for its annual Christmas Home Tour.

    Ryan Tungate celebrated his ninth birthday with a pool party at Super 8 Motel.
