    Campbellsville University men's and women's cross country teams both brought home second-place trophies at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday.

    Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church's Relay for Life Team members received Platinum Club pins in recognition of their $13,237.51 raised for this year's event.

    A surprise retirement party was given for Thomas Matney and Eugene Matney on Saturday, July 31, at Green River Lake State Park.

    Tebbs Bend is becoming known for more than just its Civil War history. It's also the place to go for a 3-mile-long flea market.

    Jamie Ennis, a 1999 Campbellsville High School graduate, recently returned from a five-week study abroad in England.

    Marsha Lynn White and Brian Nathan Black were married on Saturday, July 17, in an outdoor ceremony at the home of the bride's parents.

    Kristy Ann Gillock earned a Bachelor of Science degree in deaf and hard of hearing education and elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University on May 8.

    Trey and April Ball of Campbellsville announce the birth of a daughter, Madison Tayler, at 3:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Aug. 26, 2004

    John Wayne Kessler, 15, is the state Future Farmers of America auctioneering champion, bringing home the trophy after facing 10 challengers at the Kentucky State Fair on Friday.

    Amory Cox was chosen as 2005 Taylor County Junior Miss at Saturday's program.

    Army National Guard Pvt. Victor Farrar has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

    Aug. 19, 2004

    Kelli Brooke Oschwald and Traver Maurice Dabney were married on Saturday, July 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.

    Walmart co-manager Gary Cunningham presented $500 to Taylor County Habitat for Humanity.

    The Patriot Quartet will be in concert on Sunday, Aug. 29, at Good Hope Baptist Church.

    Nora Hazel Wade will celebrate her 90th birthday on Aug. 25. A celebration will be hosted in her honor on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Marie Cox, at 172 Wise Road.

    Big Lots, the nation's largest closeout retailer, opened its Campbellsville store yesterday.

    Sherman "Pete" McCubbin, 74, of Meadow Hill Road in Campbellsville, died on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Campbellsville.

    Laura Freeman is the recipient of the Baptist Leadership Award for the 2004-2005 school year, as well as the Women's Missionary Union Scholarship.

    Lou Willie "Twight" Taylor, 62, of Hillview Court in Campbellsville, died on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville after an illness.

    Clelland and Barbara Jo Farris Hubbard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 8.

    Joyce Kelley won a 12-place setting of silverware raffled off by Taylor County Republican Women during Campbellsville's Fourth of July celebration.

    John Holmes, a 2001 Taylor County High School graduate who will be a senior this fall at University of Kentucky, has qualified for his second consecutive U.S. Amateur.

    Green River Memorial Baptist Church's youth group recently took a mission trip to Atlanta, Ga., where they worked with the "Church on the Street," one of the largest homeless missions in the southeast United States.

    DeWayne Preston Frazier and Tonya Michelle Tucker, both of Campbellsville, graduated from University of Louisville in May.

    Hazel Parrott, 76, of Grandview Drive in Campbellsville, died on Monday, July 19, 2004, in Elizabethtown.

    Lewis and Wanda Bertram Weatherford will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception on Sunday, July 25.

    Former Rescue Chief Charles Shaw was honored with a retirement reception Sunday afternoon at Taylor Regional Hospital. Hospital staff members, Campbellsville Mayor Brenda Allen and others presented Shaw with several gifts and remembrances.
