  • Churches to host Maundy Thursday worship service

    Five Presbyterian church congregations in Taylor, Marion, Nelson and Washington counties will host a worship service on Maundy Thursday, April 5.

    The service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae, an ancient liturgy meaning A Service of Shadows, will be at 7:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, five miles north of Springfield, off of Route 555, on Pleasant Grove Loop.

  • Main Street Saturday events begin Saturday, April 7

    Main Street Saturday Night events, presented by the Tri-County Car Club, will begin Saturday, April 7.

    Hosted the first Saturday in each month from April to October, classic vehicles will be on display on Main Street from 3 to 7 p.m.

    There will be live music, children's activities, fundraisers, live entertainment, door prizes, food and more.

    Saturday, May 5 will be 1950s dress-up night. Gospel music night will be Saturday, June 2.

    There will be no event on Saturday, July 7. The club will host its annual car show on July 4.

  • Library to offer free community classes

    Taylor County Public Library will offer several free community education classes in April.

    Classes offered are:

    ♦ Thursday, April 5 - Beginning computer class from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn basic computer usage techniques, such as an introduction to the Internet and how to set up an email account.

    ♦ Thursday, April 12 - Digital downloads and using an e-reader class from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn to access and use the library's Overdrive digital library, along with how to organize and manage an e-reader account.

  • Prevent Child Abuse interview to air on 'Dialogue on Public Issues'

     

    Claire Stephan, coordinator of donor development with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, and Laura Chowning, community development coordinator with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, were recently interviewed on Campbellsville University's WLCU-TV on its "Dialogue on Public Issues" show.

    Campbellsville University's John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president of CU, did the interview.

    April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

  • CU student to host art exhibit

    Campbellsville University senior Natalie Olp will be showcasing her artwork April 2-10 in the art gallery located on the campus of Campbellsville University.

    "I don't create my artwork with a grand purpose or with a deeper meaning in mind," the Christian County High School graduate said. "I create art for art's sake and for my sheer love of creating. Ever since I can remember I have always felt a passion, a sort of need, to make art."

  • CU professor to have short film screened in Hollywood

    Dr. Jason Garrett, associate professor of communication at Campbellsville University, has been selected to present his film "Girl(s)" at the Black Hollywood Education Resource Center in Hollywood, Calif., on Saturday, March 31.

    Garrett produced, directed and edited the film during the fall 2011 semester with the students in his narrative video production class as his crew.

  • Wigginton to speak at CU Holy Week Lecture

    Dr. Scott Wigginton, associate professor of pastoral ministries and counseling at Campbellsville University and part-time minister of counseling at Campbellsville Baptist Church, will be giving a lecture on "God's Last Laugh: The Humor and Hope of the Resurrection" during Holy Week.

    The Holy Week lecture is Monday, April 2, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Badgett Academic Support Center Banquet Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Breakfast with the Easter Bunny is March 31

    Area children can have breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Taylor County Extension.

    Photos with the Easter Bunny will be from 9 to 10 a.m.

    Photo sizes available are an 8X10, two 5X7s and three 4X6s. The price of one photo selection is included with an adult meal, which is $6. Children's meals are $4. Children younger than 2 eat for free with the purchase of an adult meal.

    Sponsored by the Taylor County 4-H Council, the breakfast includes pancakes and syrup, sausage, juice, coffee and milk.

  • Basketball tournament to benefit Relay for Life

    Tip off the Final Four weekend by enjoying basketball and supporting Adair County's Relay for Life. The fifth annual Sarah Irvin Gardner Memorial basketball 3-on-3 tournament will be Friday, March 30.

    Registration will begin at 7 p.m. ET at Adair County High School gymnasium. The games will begin at 7:30 p.m. The tournament is double elimination.

    The cost is $50 per team. Teams are limited to five players.

    Concessions will be sold. All proceeds will go to Adair County Relay for Life Team SWAT.
