  • Junior Miss send-off reception is Dec. 30

    A send-off reception for Taylor County Junior Miss Megan Romines will be Sunday, Dec. 30.

    The reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Campbellsville Baptist Church's Fireside Room.

    Romines will compete Jan. 11-12 in the Kentucky Junior Miss competition at the Lexington Singletary Center.

    Family, friends and community members who wish to show support are invited to attend.

  • Nominations sought for 2008 Kentucky history awards

    The Kentucky Historical Society and the Historical Confederation of Kentucky are seeking nominations for the 2008 Kentucky History Awards.

    The awards acknowledge outstanding achievements in the field of history by individuals, civic leaders, communities, museums and historical organizations.

    The awards celebrate outstanding programs, exhibits, Web sites and publications, as well as individuals who have excelled in the field or made lifetime contributions to the preservation, awareness and appreciation of Kentucky's history.

  • KHO seeks families in need of home repairs

    Kentucky Heartland Outreach will be awarded a grant from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund administered by the Kentucky Housing Corporation.

    As a result, KHO is currently taking applications from low-income families in Taylor and Green counties who are in need of home repair. The repairs will be completed in the summer of 2008 and are totally free of charge to the homeowner.

    The deadline for applications is Feb. 29.

  • Wreaths Across America ceremony comes to Lebanon

    The Kentucky Patriot Guard Riders has volunteered to conduct the Wreaths Across America ceremony this year at the Lebanon National Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 15 at noon.

    Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who gave their lives in service.

    Specially made wreaths for Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials during the ceremony.

  • Local bands to perform at governor's inauguration

    Campbellsville and Taylor County's marching bands will perform Tuesday in Frankfort during the inauguration parade for Kentucky's Gov.-elect Steve Beshear.

    According to Taylor County's Band Director Stephen Bishop, the bands will perform an arrangement of "My Old Kentucky Home."

    Bishop said he isn't sure what time the band will be performing, but the parade is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon.

  • Volunteers sought for archeological work

    On Jan. 8, archeologists from the Southeast Archeological Center in Atlanta will begin working at the Boyhood Home at Knob Creek near Hodgenville, and they're seeking students and volunteers to help.

    This project, funded by the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, will provide archeological data for any evidence from the Lincoln family time period or earlier historical periods.

    Archeologists will be using shovel testing survey methods, geophysical surveys, magnetometer surveys, test unit excavation and backhoe trenching.

  • ATV safety night is Thursday

    ATV safety night for children and adults is Thursday at the Taylor County Extension office.

    A free meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m.

    Two motocross helmets will be given away as door prizes.

  • Toys for Tots Radiothon set for Thursday

    This year's Toys for Tots Radiothon is set for Thursday, Dec. 7 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on WCKQ-FM 104.1.

    The drive raises needed money to assist needy children in Taylor County with toys for Christmas. Funds raised will go toward the purchase of toys that will be distributed by Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue on Christmas Eve.

    Community leaders will join on-air personalities Rob Collins, Cat Michaels and Brandon Reed along with other guests throughout the day to solicit donations.

    This marks the 19th year that Q-104's fundraising efforts have existed.

  • Free counseling in Spanish offered Saturday

    Information about rights, responsibilities and opportunities in housing and employment will be given in the form of free counseling in Spanish on Saturday.

    Information about the Mexican consular card and passport will also be discussed.

    An immigration attorney will be present at the session, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

    Sponsors of the event are Greater Campbellsville United and the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights.

  • Annual candle lighting ceremony is Dec. 9

    The annual Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9.

    The U.S. Senate has, for several years, joined in the Worldwide Candle Lighting remembrance by unanimously passing resolutions at the request of the Compassionate Friends, declaring the second Sunday in December of each year as National Children's Memorial Day.
