  • CU to host MLK worship service

    The Rev. Gerald Joiner will be the speaker for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Worship Service at Campbellsville University on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Ransdell Chapel.

    Joiner is pastor of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, a Campbellsville University alumnus and member of the Church Relations Council at CU.

    The public is invited to the event, which is free.

    The Gospel Explosion Choir, a group of about 40 individuals from Taylor, Adair and Green counties, will be providing the special music.

  • Heart of Kentucky Heritage & Soul Festival is this weekend

    The Heart of Kentucky Heritage & Soul Festival brings the Unlimited band to Lebanon this weekend, along with many other educational and entertaining activities.

    Unlimited has opened for bands such as Midnight Star and the Average White Band and has shared the stage with SOS Band, The Emotions, KC & the Sunshine Band, Nappy Roots, Parliament Funkadellic and Al Green.

  • TCHS to host prom and bridal review

    Taylor County High School's junior class will sponsor a Prom and Bridal Review Style Show on Friday, Jan. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the TCHS gymnasium.

    Cost is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

    There will be more than 100 students modeling the latest prom and bridal fashions.

    Also on site will be vendors from bridal shops, tuxedo rentals, photographers/videographers, flower shops, wedding cakes/caterers, hair/makeup/nail salons, limo services, disc jockeys and more.

  • CU to host spring registration

    Campbellsville University will have its spring 2008 registration on Monday and Tuesday in the Technology Training Center.

    Classes start Wednesday at 8 a.m.

    Monday's registration is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and registration on Tuesday is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    The Offices of Financial Aid and Business Services will be located in the Tech Center.

    An orientation for new students is scheduled Monday, Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. in the Little Auditorium.

  • Library to host open house Jan. 15

    The Taylor County Public Library will host an open house Tuesday, Jan. 15 in celebration of its 33 years of service to the Campbellsville/Taylor County community.

    The library will offer extended hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Full library services will be available and refreshments will be provided. Arts and crafts and stories will be available for children.

    The Friends Volunteer Board is hosting the event and invites members of the community to attend the open house and show support for the library.

  • Driver safety program is Jan. 30

    Although experts agree that driving ability begins deteriorating around the age of 55, drivers have widely differing skills. While some drivers continue to drive safely well into their older years, studies show the crash rate per mile driven rises steadily for drivers age 65 and older.

    Older drivers have fewer collisions because they drive less and at less dangerous times. However, when they are in a crash, it can be serious.

  • Blood drive is Jan. 31

    Holidays, bad weather and illness are a few reasons the blood supply often drops to critical levels during the winter months. But a stable supply is necessary to ensure blood is available when patients need it most.

    That's where you come in.

    In honor of National Blood Donor Month, the American Red Cross invites everyone to donate blood in January.

    As a token of appreciation, all participants in January blood drives will be eligible to enter a region-wide drawing for a high-definition television worth $1,000.

    The Taylor County Fourth of July Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Campbellsville/Taylor County Fire Department.

    This month's meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 16. The meetings are open to the public.

  • Benefit auction is Jan. 26

    A benefit auction is being planned for Sandy Edwards, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

    The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Campbellsville Community Center, located near Veterans Memorial Park on Old KY 210.

    Auction items and cash donations are being sought. The money raised will go toward Edwards' medical costs.
