  • Drivers Safety course is June 11-12

    Dennis and Judy Surna, certified AARP instructors, will offer a two-day Drivers Safety class on Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12.

    The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Taylor County Extension Office.

    Drivers Safety is particularly designed for those ages 50 and older. Some auto insurers give a discount on premiums for graduates of the course. Attendees will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road, and how to adjust driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

  • State fair artwork competition deadline is July 1

    The chance to have blue ribbon artwork showcased at The White House and more ways to enter online are all expected to increase the number of competitive entries at the 2008 Kentucky State Fair.

    One talented Kentucky artist will be honored as his or her blue ribbon Kentucky State Fair artwork is displayed at The White House. The winning entry in the new decorated Kentucky egg category will be added to The White House's prestigious Easter Egg Collection, which showcases an egg representing each state and the District of Columbia.

  • Lawn and garden tour is Saturday

    The annual lawn and garden tour sponsored by the Campbellsville Woman's Club will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Ten sites will be on the tour, including:

    - Campbellsville University, gazebo and campus.

    - Billy B and Vonda Smith, 205 Skyline Drive.

    - Tommy and Peggy Hayes, 330 Warren Place.

    - Pam Merkle, 316 Warren Place.

    - Junior and Patty Southern, 130 Warren Place.

    - Lanny and Joyce Cox, 128 North Shore Drive.

    - Larry and Kaye Legg, 102 Landon Drive, Cox Cove.

    - Mrs. Charlie Cox, 103 Landon Drive, Cox Cove.

  • CHS Class of 1963 reunion is July 5

    The Campbellsville High School Class of 1963 will have its 45-year reunion on Saturday, July 5.

    The reunion will be at the home of Mary Hogue Osborne. All graduates and attendees of the class are invited.

  • Company searches for former employees

    Individuals who have ever been employed at Lake Cumberland Home Health, Columbia Lake Cumberland Home Health, Medshares Home Health and Intrepid USA Home Health are invited to a free picnic to celebrate the company's 40th year of operation.

    Former employees and their families are invited to attend along with current employees and their families.

    The picnic is set for Saturday, June 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pulaski County Park in Nancy, Ky.

  • Comedy camps begin June 16

    This summer at "'Laugh In' Out Loud" theatre arts camps on the Campbellsville University campus, children will be working on comedy skits, joke wall appearances and improvisations that will allow them to gain experience working on stage in a group and as individuals.

    The camps are hosted by Campbellsville University and Birdsong Family Productions.

    This format will allow all campers to participate in a performance at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18 at the University theatre. The show will be open to the community.

  • Crusade for Children collections end Sunday

    Crusade for Children collections end Sunday

    Crusade for Children collections have begun.

    House-to-house collections will continue through Thursday and roadblocks will begin Friday.

    Friday's roadblocks will begin at 3 p.m. and end at dark. Saturday's roadblocks will begin at noon and also end at dark. Sunday's roadblock will be in front of the Campbellsville/Taylor County Fire Department.

  • Relay for Life begins Friday

    Taylor County Relay for Life events begin Friday at Taylor County High School. The annual event raises money for the American Cancer Society. This year's theme refers to movies.

    Events begin at 5 p.m. A schedule of events follows.

    - 5 to 7 p.m. - Teams arrive and set up.

    - 7 to 8 p.m. - Opening ceremonies. The national anthem will be performed by Allie Hash. The prayer will be led by Dave Collie. Taylor County Jr. Color Guard, Hannah Ellis, Clint Graham and Zach Sharp will also perform.

    - 8 to 8:30 p.m. - Kick off and instructions.

  • Relay for Life basketball tournament is Saturday

    A 3 on 3 basketball tournament to benefit Relay for Life is scheduled for Saturday at Campbellsville Baptist Church.

    Registration is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the church's Christian Life Center. Entry fee is $40.

  • Church to host health fair

    First Baptist Church will host a health fair at its Imani Community Center on Sunday, June 8.

    The event is from 1 to 3 p.m. and will help residents learn about their physical health.

    Businesses and organizations will provide educational materials, free screenings, food and prizes.

    Services offered include glucose monitoring, high blood pressure checks, HIV testing, and information on skin cancer, elder abuse, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, physical therapy, fire prevention and death and dying counseling.
