  • CU to host Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

    Dr. F. Bruce Williams, pastor, mentor, evangelist and visionary, will be speaking at Campbellsville University's Martin Luther King Memorial Worship Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Ransdell Chapel.

    United to Praise, a CU gospel group, will perform. This event is free and open to the public.

  • Cozart interview to air on 'Dialogue on Public Issues'

     

    David Cozart, a Campbellsville University graduate who is administrator of development for the Urban League at Lexington/Fayette County, and Eric Geary, chief executive officer with Lexington Leadership Foundation, were recently interviewed for the CU show "Dialogue on Public Issues" on WLCU.

    CU's John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president of CU, at right, did the interview.

    The show will air Monday, Jan. 9, at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

  • Extension office's piggy bank pageant deadline extended

    The deadline to participate in the Taylor County Extension Office's piggy bank pageants, hosted to celebrate Kentucky Saves Week, has been extended.

    Banks in Taylor County are hosting preliminary pageants for separate age groups.

    Take a "piggy bank" to one of the locations below through Tuesday, Jan. 10, for display and judging.

    After Friday, Jan. 13, age-group winners will be taken to the Taylor County Extension Office where a county winner will be selected by Thursday, Jan. 19.

  • Quit Line is free tobacco cessation resource

    The Kentucky Tobacco Quit Line is a free, statewide, telephone-based tobacco cessation.

    The line, available at (800) QUIT-NOW, provides a one-on-one proactive counseling program for tobacco users who are ready to quit. There are specific programs available for pregnant women who smoke and chewing tobacco users.

    Callers who are younger than 18 should have parent permission before calling.

    The lines also provide information to tobacco users and non-tobacco users about tobacco dependence and treatment, the dangers of second-hand smoke and more.

  • Auditor to appear on 'Dialogue on Public Issues'

     

    Crit Luallen, Kentucky's auditor of public accounts, was recently interviewed on Campbellsville University's WLCU-TV for the "Dialogue on Public Issues" show.

    Campbellsville University's John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president of CU, interviewed Luallen.

    The show will air Monday, Dec. 26, at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 6:30 p.m. The show is aired on Comcast Cable Channel 10.

  • CU students interviewed on 'Dialogue on Public Issues'

     

    Campbellsville University students Logan Hazelwood, Andre Morton and Trent Creason were recently interviewed on Campbellsville University's WLCU-TV for the "Dialogue on Public Issues" show.

    The students are part of CU's First Class program, which is a semester-long program that embraces the Christian liberal arts status of CU while developing the virtues of character, leadership and financial stewardship.

  • Blood drives scheduled during National Blood Donor Month

    January is National Blood Donor Month and American Red Cross officials thank blood donors for dedicating their time to give hope to patients in need. Throughout the month of January, the American Red Cross is celebrating the contributions of millions of blood donors who give patients hope.

    Since 1970, National Blood Donor Month has been celebrated in an effort to educate Americans about the importance of regular blood donation and the impact it can have on patients in need.

  • TRH to host smoking cessation class

    Taylor Regional Hospital will offer a Cooper/Clayton Stop Smoking Cessation class, beginning Jan. 9.

    The 12-week class will meet on Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. through March 26.

    The Cooper/Clayton Method to stop smoking was developed at a major university and has proven to work in research studies and has continued to work for over 20 years. It has worked for thousands of smokers.

    Classes will be at the Taylor Regional Hospital Learning & Resource Center. The classes are free, though pre-registration is required.

    Taylor County Extension Office is offering a chance to go "Hog Wild" and celebrate the second annual Kentucky Saves Week.

    Residents can use their creativity to make a piggy bank and save their change.
