Work begins on roads, bridges

-A A +A

Guest column by Taylor County Judge-Executive Eddie Rogers

There is a lot going on in Taylor County. We’ve started county road blacktopping projects and we are working on some bridges.

I want to remind the community to be aware of their surroundings when we are doing these projects, especially for possible detours.

We will notify when we will be doing any construction work for closures by newspaper and on local radio stations, so please be patient and watch for the construction in the areas.

Along with the road work that we are doing, I would like to remind people that school has resumed in session. Please be watchful of the children.

We are working on a project with the Natures Conservancy on the Tates-Atchley Mill. We will be in the process of purchasing 6.5 acres, which includes the old mill. There is a lot of history from this area that may increase our tourism in Taylor County. The addition will showcase the Homeplace even more. Also, we are doing some improvement to the Toll House, and this will encourage more tourism and visitors to Taylor County.

I will be attending a meeting at the end of the month to review how other communities encourage and involve people to explore trails. I would like to have more trails like this in Taylor County.

This meeting will give me ideas on what we could possibly do to expand our existing trails or have more.

The Kentucky State Fair will be starting on Aug. 16 and going through Aug. 26. I encourage everyone who can to attend to support their own community and state.

I encourage everyone to do their part and recycle. Not only does recycling benefit our county and our environment, it improves our future. When you are using the recycling facilities, please rinse out all of the containers and metal cans.

As county judge/executive, I would encourage the residents to get involved in their community and ask questions of their elected officials to understand what they are doing for their county, which is why I say my door is always open. Stop by any time!
