Woman charged with assaulting police officer

A Columbia woman has been arrested and charged with assault after she struck a police officer with her vehicle.

According to a Campbellsville Police report, Tia Lawanda Watt, 29, was arrested Tuesday, March 25 at 2:15 p.m.

The report states Campbellsville Police were investigating a shoplifting complaint at Green River Plaza when Officer Ben Riggs made contact with Watt in the parking lot.

While speaking with Riggs, the report states, Watt attempted to flee and struck Riggs with her vehicle, knocking him to the ground.

Watt was later stopped on KY 44 and charged with theft by unlawful taking more than $300, third-degree assault of a police officer, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree fleeing or evading police.

She was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center.

Riggs was treated and released at Taylor Regional Hospital.
