Williamsburg came out of the gate fast and scored in the game’s first 30 seconds and led 13-0 after less than four minutes on its way to a 47-0 shut-out at Campbellsville in the district opener for both squads.
The Yellow Jackets, who actually dress in orange, added another first-quarter tally and two more in the second frame to lead 34-0 at the intermission.
Two of Williamsburg’s scores came on long punt returns — 54 and 61 yards, respectively.
CHS threatened in the first quarter when Arick Groves connected with Tavon Hunter for a 39-yard pass play and actually had a first-and-goal at the WHS 8-yard line after an 8-yard Hayden Webb run.
However, Groves was sacked for an 11-yard loss and was then picked off.
With the clock running continuously in the second half, Williamsburg added a third-period tally before Groves hooked up with Kendon Young for an apparent 79-yard tally.
However, a personal foul well behind the play, nullified the Eagles’ chance to score.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2) picked off their second pass to set up the final visitors’ touchdown — a 13-yard run by Alex Patterson, the back-up quarterback. Regular signalcaller Dalton Sizemore, passed for his 13th TD on the season with nearly 1,600 yards.
“We are really struggling right now,” Eagle coach Dale Estes said. “But, we will keep working.”
Campbellsville (0-7) will need triumphs in its last district games to get a home play-off tilt. The Eagles visit Lynn Camp this Friday before playing at Berea on Oct. 25. CHS will host LaRue County in the regular-season finale on Nov. 1 with post-season play starting on Friday, Nov. 8.
