We need all Mr. Basketballs in the KHSAA Hall of Fame

-A A +A
By The Staff

I would like for everyone that reads this - and especially the basketball fan - to help us get every Kentucky Mr. Basketball inducted into the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

The KHSAA Hall of Fame was started in 1988 and only 14 of the 53 former Mr. Basketball(s) have been inducted. There are currently 28 who are eligible and deserve to be inducted.

The KHSAA eligibility criteria for induction for an athletic is as follows and I quote "A former high school athlete whose achievements as a high school athlete were so extraordinary and merit statewide recognition." end quote. This without a doubt is the definition of Mr. Basketball, the oldest and most cherished award in the state of Kentucky.

Kentucky now has the only Mr. Basketball Fraternity in the United States and they have nominated 19 of the 28 players who are eligible. Nine players could not be located in order to gather the necessary personal information for the nomination. A player is evaluated on high school days only and must be out of high school for 10 years before he is eligible.

We ask each of you to go to www.khsaa.org and click on the BOARD OF CONTROL to get the mailing addresses. I request you write each of them and ask them to put all Mr. Basketball(s) in the Hall of Fame. Ask them to grandfather the ones who have been nominated by the Fraternity and induct them in the 2009 class.
