Former Taylor County High School head boys' basketball coach Fred Waddle will be honored on Friday at the boys' state tournament in Lexington.

Waddle will be the Fifth Region honoree in the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Court of Honor in a ceremony at Rupp Arena. A commemorative brick will be installed in the KHSAA courtyard in recognition of his accomplishment.

Waddle, who was an assistant under Billy B Smith, was the head coach for the Cardinals from the 1973-1974 season through the 1988-1989 campaign before being elected Taylor County Judge/Executive.

Waddle guided Taylor County to four Fifth Region titles (1974, 1977, 1980 and 1983) in a 10-year period, and his teams posted eight 20-win seasons and 270 wins during his 16-year tenure.

Smith, by the way, was 306-192 in his 17 years as head coach and led the Cardinals to the 1963 Sixth Region Tournament championship.

Campbellsville's Tim Davis, who coached Marion County to the 1993 state title, was honored in 2004.
