Campbellsville made it two victories in less than 48 hours and three on the season with a 63-40 rout of Fort Knox on Thursday night in Paul J. Coop Gymnasium.
“We have been getting better in the last month, but getting some confidence from a few wins has been great for our team morale,” admitted coach Richard Dooley whose team bested McCreary Central on Tuesday.
“Against Fort Knox we were able to get better at running the floor and getting to the proper spots out on the break.”
The Lady Eagles (3-11) led 5-0, 11-2 and 22-3 in the first quarter with many of the eight hoops coming on assists, including three by Kiyah Barnett. CHS finished the tilt with 17 hand-outs.
Caroline McMahan’s three-point play started off a 15-point second frame and Vonnea Smith hit a pair of three-pointer baskets just before intermission for a 37-16 cushion.
Nena Barnett, who led the Lady Eagles with 19 points, started the second half with six quick points and Smith added five more of her total of 14.
Reserve Makayla Harris had five of CHS’ nine fourth-quarter points as Dooley was afforded the luxury of playing most of the 15 players at least four minutes.
Brenna Wethington was the top Lady Eagle rebounder with six and also had three assists as did Nena Barnett, one less than twin sister Kiyah’s four. McMahan had six steals and Kalisha Murphy three.
Campbellsville begins play in the Touchstone Energy Fifth Region All “A” Classic tonight with a girl/boy twinbill at Caverna. The semi-finals and championship at scheduled at Washington County High School.
