Two Campbellsville residents have been arrested and charged with stealing money and a computer.

According to a Taylor County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a complaint on Jan. 14 that someone had broken into a vehicle and stolen $1,700 and a laptop computer. The money was from a local business and was to be taken to a bank the next day.

On Sept. 6, deputies received information that a local man had confessed to stealing the money and laptop. Using that information, arrest warrants were issued for George McNear, 33, of Purcell Court, and Jason Johnson, 26, of Meadow Creek Road. The two were arrested Oct. 31.

The report states that McNear admitted he and Johnson stole the money and computer. He allegedly told deputies that the two split the money and Johnson got rid of the computer.

McNear and Johnson were charged with theft by unlawful taking and third-degree criminal mischief. They were lodged at the Taylor County Detention Center.

Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Dickie Benningfield investigated.
