TRH names nurse, nurse extender of the year

Taylor Regional Hospital named this year's winners of the Nurse of the Year and Nurse Extender of the Year recently. The recipients are chosen by their peers.

Nominees for Nurse of the Year were registered nurses LaRee Bell-Shively, Alex Corbin and Brandi Rector. Corbin received the award.

Corbin has been a team member at TRH since 2005. He and his wife, Faith, have two children, Caleb Seth and Lydia Grace.

Some comments made about Corbin were:

"Alex is a great nurse and co-worker. He takes excellent care of his patients. He's a great team player and always willing to help."

"Alex performs a vital role in all surgery departments. He has a good attitude and does well under stressful situations."

This year marked the 12th year to award a Nurse Extender of the Year. Nurse extenders are team members who serve a support function to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, such as ward clerks, nursing assistants, technicians and others.

This year's nominees were Sharon Cornett, Meredith Haley and Brenda Ruiz. Ruiz received this year's award.

Ruiz has been a team member at TRH since 2006. She and her husband, Daniel, have four children, Bianca, Adrianna, Javier and Josefina.

Some comments made about Ruiz include:

"Brenda is always on top of her game. She is dependable and trustworthy. She is always there to lend a helping hand and puts patient care as her top priority."

"She is always very compassionate and caring of her patients. Always going above and beyond to be sure her patients are happy and well cared for. She is an extremely hard worker and great communicator with nurses and other staff."
