Vicky Newton, a teacher at Taylor County Middle School, was presented with a MAC Grant on Monday, Dec. 10 at a special check presentation in front of her students and co-workers.

MAC Grants are monetary awards to help teachers incorporate hands-on activities in their classroom that will make their lessons more meaningful to students.

Recognizing that lessons often become more meaningful when demonstrated with hands-on experiences, McDonald's supports activities that supplement regular classroom curriculum. The MAC Grants program provides up to $500 to middle school teachers for interesting and educational projects for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Twenty-six teachers were selected to receive MAC Grants in Kentuckiana.

Newton plans on using the grant money to help make geometry more fun with boards that allow students to translate shapes and determine similar and congruent figures, as well as the slope of lines.
