The Kentucky Department of Education and the University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development have announced six $10,000 Universal Design for Learning model school grants.

Taylor County Middle School is among those six schools that will receive the funding. The competitive grants were also awarded to Campbell Ridge Elementary in Campbell County; Shearer Elementary in Clark County; Shepherdsville Elementary in Bullitt County; Trigg County Middle; and Boyd County High School.

These grants will help schools integrate new instructional strategies that incorporate accessible or scaffolded curriculum materials and emerging technologies into the classroom. These new accessible curriculum materials integrate universal design features that allow all students to engage in the learning process more fully regardless of ability. They will be coordinated through the Center for Innovation and Instruction for Diverse Learners (http://louisville.edu/education/ciidl) which will offer technical

assistance and professional development to schools through June 2008.
