Coach Jenny Jessie’s Taylor County Lady Cardinals hit 13 of 14 first-half free throws to build a 20-12 cushion, but did not attempt a single second-half charity toss and dropped a 32-28 decision to visiting Adair County on Friday night.
Adair County (2-2 overall and 1-1 in district play) used three D.J. Ballou baskets to cut the deficit to two (24-22) at the third-quarter stop and took the lead with baskets by McKenzie Martin and Chelsea Beard to start the final eight minutes.
MeLeigha Pollock led Taylor County (4-1, 1-1) with nine points while Mercedes Cox had eight, six in the second half, and Marsha Kessler added five.
Ballou led all scorers with 15 with six others scoring for James Turner’s team.
The Lady Cards will host Green County on Thursday in a junior varsity/varsity twinbill starting at 6:30 before playing Madison Southern on the road at Madison Central on Saturday (2:30). TCHS completes pre-Christmas action at Bardstown on Dec. 23.
