Bella Long, a third-grade student at Taylor County Elementary School, recently won second place in the state's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Moving Beyond the Dream visual arts contest.

Long was chosen from more than 1,000 entries.

She took part in a celebration Jan. 17 at the Kentucky Historical Society's Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.

The contest theme was "Moving Beyond the Dream to Brighten the Future."

According to the official contest criteria, the theme encouraged students to promote their vision of how they can bring about change in their community and the world at large.
