Taylor County High School’s boys’ team posted its first district win of the season as the Cardinals conquered Marion County 67-56 on the road Friday night.
However, the Lady Cardinals fell 75-35 to Marion County, the state’s top-rated girls’ squad, in the first game.
The Cardinal boys (10-9) fell behind 7-0 and could manage only 18 first-half points.
But coach Troy Young’s troops put up 49 points (24 in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth) to win by double digits.
Lloyd Stotts paced the Cardinals with 18 points and Tevin Webster had 16 points and nine rebounds. However, it was reserve Trae Wells who sparked TCHS with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
In the girls’ encounter, the Lady Cards (11-8) saw Marion County sprint away from a 2-2 tie for a 17-2 lead en route to the romp.
Hope Wigginton led TCHS with 14 points while sophomore Bre Elder had 21 for Marion and freshmen Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers 20 and 13, respectively.
Taylor County hosts Adair County in a girl/boy (6:30/8) on Tuesday.
