Taylor weightlifters do well

Taylor County finished in a third-place tie in Class 3A at the Kentucky High School State Weightlifting Meet on March 15 at Central Hardin.

The Cardinals tied Elizabethtown behind Russell and Spencer counties in a competition with more than 380 participants.

Junior Chris Thomas paced Taylor County to its high finish by winning the 205-pound weight class with lifts totaling 920 pounds - 340 on bench press and a dead lift of 580 pounds.

Other Cards performers were:

- Sophomore Huston Bragg, 14th in the heavyweight class (710, 250-460)

- Sophomore Chase Richardson, 11th in the 185-pound class (710, 235-475)

- Freshman Lake Salsbury, 12th in the 225-pound class (740, 285-455)

- Sophomore Zack Bottoms, 21st in the 220-pound class (680, 250-430)

- Sophomore Clint Newton, 22nd in the 195-pound class (590, 185-405)

- Eighth-grader Clay Wright, 24th in the 155-pound class (520, 185-335)

- Sophomore Cody VanMeter (205) and Skyler Edelen (185) also competed for Taylor County.
