Taylor County Middle School hosted its Eighth Grade Graduation and Awards Ceremony on May 28. Students were addressed by TCHS valedictorian Taylor Cox.
Matthew Hart, son of Scott and Cynthia Hart, was presented with the Outstanding Eighth Grader Award. The Outstanding Eighth Grader Award is based on academic merit, participation in extracurricular activities, attitude and good citizenship qualities.
Five students, including Hart, were recognized for outstanding academic excellence. These students maintained a perfect 4.0 grade average during the entire year: Brittany Gaddis, Alexandra Hezik, Kaitlin Mardis and Nolan Slinker.
Hart also received the TCMS Academic Achievement Award for earning all As in all subjects over his three-year academic career at TCMS.
Other students receiving awards were: Campbell Bishop and Matthew Hart, algebra awards; Dylan Ford and Jonathon Walls, math awards; Brittany Gaddis and Matthew Hart, science awards; Amber Rodgers, Matthew Hart, Abigail Phillips and Austin Sprowles, English award; Austin Burress, social studies award; Blake Dudgeon and Hannah Milby, physical education awards; Justin Wise, Paige Wilson, Jonathon Walls and Abigail Phillips, health awards; Alexandra Hezik, Justin Wise, Campbell Bishop and Jenna Ferrante, vocational studies award; Amber Rodgers, art award; and Natasha Spurling and Evan Alston, arts and humanities awards.
