Forty-seven first-year FFA members received their Greenhand degrees on Sept. 25.
The Greenhand degree is awarded to all FFA members in their first year who have met minimum qualifications. Such qualifications include reciting the FFA creed in its entirety; having basic knowledge of FFA history; and having a satisfactory Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.
The guest speaker for the night was Josh Kerr, Lake Cumberland Region state vice president. He spoke on the future within the FFA.
Besides the awarding of degrees, the night's program also included competitions. One was the creed competition. In this event, members were required to recite the creed to its best accuracy. Katie Ferguson was the winner.
The other competition was a quiz. Members were asked questions about FFA and its entire history. Austin Hardin walked away as the winner.
Junior officers were also announced. Interviews for positions were conducted the week before the ceremony.
Junior officers are as follows: Ryan Tungate, president; Matthew Johns, vice president; James Malone, secretary; Marsha Kessler, treasurer; Jessica Bailey, reporter; Zach Carter, sentinel; and Ashley Moss, chaplain.
Taylor County FFA Alumni members provided refreshments.
