From bouncing to bubble blowing, dozens of children celebrated the end of the Summer Reading Program at Taylor County Public Library on Monday.
Kids enjoyed a bounce house, a giant slide, jousting, bubbles, face painting and more at the party, which took place at Veterans Memorial Park.
Themed "Catch the Reading Bug," this year's Summer Reading Program was designed with families in mind, according to Bonnie Webster, library programmer.
The drop-in style program allowed children to visit the library anytime between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and still have the opportunity to take part in reading activities, storytelling, scavenger hunts, face painting and crafts.
Webster said this year's program even drew out-of-town families who were visiting Green River Lake.
She said that with the help of The Friends of Taylor County Public Library and this year's Taylor County Junior Miss contestants, the carnival event was a huge success. Taylor County Bank, Community Trust Bank and Citizens Bank were sponsors of the event.
Webster said she plans to make next year's event even bigger and will continue with the drop-in style program to serve more families.
On a survey asking participants their thoughts on the event, Webster said, one child answered, "You make reading fun."
