Homecoming event set for Sunday

By The Staff

Southside Christian Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a homecoming on Sunday.

The event will be a reunion of family and friends reflecting on God's goodness and blessings.

Southside's congregation assembled for the first time on Sept. 28, 1980, in a home. On Oct. 8 that year, a commercial building and 1.4 acres were purchased. Four days later, the group met in its new location with 32 in attendance.

In the following years, more land was purchased. In 2003, a fellowship hall was added. In the past few years, Southside has made renovations to the sanctuary, parking lot and grounds.

This Sunday, the morning service begins at 10 a.m. with Bible lessons. At 11 a.m., Bro. Ron Hockman, who served at Southside from 1981 to 1984, will preach. Hockman is currently serving as minister of North Hardin Christian Church in Radcliff.

A noon potluck dinner consisting of country ham, chicken and various dishes will be served in the church's fellowship hall.

At 6 p.m., the event will continue with Bro. Elmer Wheatley preaching. He served at Southside from 1990 to 1998.

Following the evening worship service, the congregation will have refreshments in the fellowship hall.

The community is invited. The church is located at 2831 Elk Horn Road. Call Bro. Kenny Dotson at 465-5134 for more information.
