Sewing factory gets government contract

If you like to work, then 105 employees of Campbellsville Apparel got news of a nice Christmas present.

CAC secured a new government contract with five-year production parameters for 4 million to 22 million units. The Defense Logistics Agency, a combat support agency that provides supplies and services to America's military forces, announced finalization of the multimedia contract last week. CAC will be producing undershirts for four branches of the military.

The T-shirt contract is not the first for CAC. The local sewing factory accelerated production on its previous contract, which was completed before the deadline, according to Chris Reynolds, vice president for manufacturing.

CAC is presently working on a five-year contract for briefs and a three-year contract for Marine Corp fleece that were secured last April.

But this most recent contract affects 105 employees who were on a rotating reduced schedule while awaiting word of the newest contract, according to Reynolds.

Campbellsville Apparel will have all 170 of its workforce back together on Dec. 17, Reynolds said.

"To be honest, we feel like we won this contract because of the quality and on-time delivery of our product," he said.

"We're very lucky. Our people know what to do and how to do it."
