Beauford Sanders reached the 1,000 coaching victory plateau on Saturday when his Campbellsville University baseball Tigers upended Cumberland (Tenn.) University 10-1 on Saturday afternoon in game one of a Mid-South Conference doubleheader.
Sanders, who won 268 games at North Greenville Community College (now North Greenville University) in South Carolina, has won 732 times at Campbellsville.
“Congratulations to Beauford on a big milestone win,” CU athletics director Rusty Hollingsworth said. “This is a great accomplishment that speaks to his commitment to hard work, recruiting and love for what he does.”
The milestone is the latest in a string of milestones for Sanders, who joined an elite group of Kentucky collegiate coaches last season with his 700th win at Campbellsville.
“It’s hard for me to express in words only what that means,” Sanders said. “It is extremely humbling.
“For whatever reason, the good Lord has blessed me to be a part of and get some recognition for this accomplishment. My life has been so enriched because of my experiences with great men and baseball and those young men I’ve had the opportunity to coach and mentor.
“I feel extremely fortunate. To God be the glory.”
