A Russell Springs man has been arrested and charged with DUI after he told police he had been drinking and smoking marijuana.

Steve R. Jensen, 48, of 42 Shawnee Ave. was arrested at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

According to court records, Jensen passed Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Ricky Underwood while he was following another vehicle closely at a fast speed.

The citation states that Underwood pulled Jensen's vehicle over and smelled alcohol on his breath. Court records state that Underwood saw marijuana in Jensen's vehicle and he later found a pipe, papers and tweezers used to roll and smoke marijuana. Records state that Jensen refused to take a blood test.

Jensen was charged with speeding, DUI, driving on a suspended or revoked operator's license, possession of less than 8 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug supplies, his second offense.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Taylor District Court on Monday, April 27.

Bond was set at $2,000 cash and Jensen was ordered to hire his own attorney and not to consume drugs or alcohol or drive.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
