Rough slates begin for locals at Forcht Bank Bowl

CHS plays Edmonson Co. on Friday, TCHS plays Russell Co. on Saturday

Football fans can get a glimpse of the local teams as Campbellsville and Taylor County will have 8:30 p.m. second-game kick-offs on Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the fifth annual Forcht Bank Bowl on Citizens Bank Field at Campbellsville University’s Finley Stadium.
Campbellsville’s 2012 season ended on the same turf when coach Dale Estes’ Eagles were eliminated by Pineville in the Class A play-offs last November.
CHS’ 27-team roster consists of only four seniors and five juniors and a schedule that includes games with Class 4A powerhouse Russell County in the opener and also non-district tilts with Class 2A heavyweights Danville and Green County.
The only games the Eagles play against similar Class A foes will be against their three district opponents and at Bethlehem.
Campbellsville will more than likely need two district triumphs in a three-week stretch (Williamsburg at home and at Lynn Camp and Berea) to earn a home play-off game again.
Coming off a 6-4 season and ending the last year’s campaign  with a pair of wins, Taylor County shoots for a play-off berth in 2013.
Coach Eric Graves’s Cardinals will probably need to pull off a road win at Marion County on Sept. 27 or a home triumph vs. Mercer County on Oct. 18 to make the post-season scene since in games vs. Boyle County and Lexington Catholic, TCHS will be a heavy underdog.
A key clash for each of the local teams may come in two weeks when they square off with each other on Sept. 6 at CU.
A loss means a tough road to a .500 season while a victory should mean a chance at a five- or six-victory campaign.
The crystal ball sees a 5-5 worksheet for the winner and at best a 4-6 ledger for the loser.
