Tebbs Bend Battlefield Association will host an Education Day on Thursday, May 1. The public is invited to participate for $5.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Atkinson-Griffin House Confederate Hospital at Green River Lake Visitor Center. The public can follow the buses of students and get out along the trail and hear docents dressed in costume explain what happened at that point in the Civil War battle on July 4, 1863.
Taylor County eighth graders will be on the Tebbs Bend trail from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Leonard Lay will demonstrate cannon fire on the battle site. Bryan Taylor will lead the Confederate charge of students across the battlefield against men from the 9th Michigan re-enacting squad. Re-enactor June Fields will play the part of a surgeon at the Confederate hospital.
The Rev. Paul Patton will serve as the chaplain at the Confederate Cemetery.
The Toll House will be open for the public to see its exhibits.
