Locals finish tied for fifth

Campbellsville’s American Legion Post 82 baseball squad won its first game before dropping its first two games at the Southeast Region Tournament in Asheboro, N.C.
Post 82 downed Bessemer, Ala. 9-3 on Thursday  before falling 10-0 to Wilmington, N.C. on Friday.
Campbellsville came out of the gate in the tourney opener with two runs in the second inning and five more in the third.
Cannon Pender went the first seven innings to get the win while Justin Hazel tossed the final two frames.
 Cody Houk led the Post 82 attack with three hits while Dustin Kindervarter and Zach Ditto had two safeties apiece and Javy Echevarria, Pender, Colton Bush, Will Hollingsworth and Hazel each had one.
Against Wilmington, Post 82 could muster only four hits (two by Bush and one each from Echevarria and Jordan Hinton).
Campbellsville was eliminated on Saturday 13-4 by Conyers, Ga. as Post 82 had two hits from Ditto and one apiece by Kindervarter, Echevarria, Pender and Houk. Chase Thomas, a sophomore at Campbellsville High School, went the first three innings with Justin Hazel, a Taylor County High School graduate who will play golf at Campbellsville University, tossed the final five frames.
