It was with great joy that my family and I read of the news that Coach Perry Thomas is returning to Campbellsville as the new head football coach at Campbellsville University.
Over 10 years ago, my son, John, played football under Coach Thomas. John tore his ACL badly at football camp the summer before his junior year. He was not able to play football that fall, but the lessons he learned from his extremely dedicated football coach, Coach Thomas, as he rehabilitated, have never been forgotten.
Coach was determined to get John's knee "back in shape" no matter what. Every day meant exercises and therapy in the locker room. Coach was there working with John even on Thanksgiving Day and nearly every day of Christmas break.
John's knee healed; the doctors told him it was in better shape than his good knee, and he came back his senior year to have his best year ever on the gridiron.
Coach Thomas never gave up on John and his other boys on the team. He persevered through the good and the bad and set an example for his players that all grew to appreciate and admire.
Many of us feel that Campbellsville University is doing outstanding things as it continues in its unprecedented success and growth. The addition of Coach Thomas is truly a great gift to all of us.
