Penn's store is primary site of Kentucky Writers Day Celebration

In honor and celebration of the state's designated Writers Day on Thursday, April 24, the birthday of Robert Penn Warren, noted writers, authors, poets and songwriters will read and perform their own work and the work of others at Blues on Tap in downtown Lebanon, Historic Penn's Store in Gravel Switch and Woody's in Danville this Friday through Sunday.

The celebration will feature Michael Johnathon, singer, songwriter and author and host of the "Wood Songs Old Time Radio Hour," the Elizabeth Madox Roberts Society, Ron Whitehead and Sarah Elizabeth and many other authors and musicians.

Admission is free. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and come enjoy the festivities. There are open mic slots for unscheduled performances. Books and CDs are available for purchase and authors and artists will sign their work. Food is available and Penn's Store will be open for a trip back in time.

Blues on Tap owner James Spragens was one of a group of Marion County High School students who drafted the bill establishing Kentucky Writers Day.
