Nine-run sixth propels Lady Cards past CHS

TCHS softballers post 13-1 romp over Lady Eagles.

Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals used a nine-run, seven-hit top of the sixth to power past home-standing Campbellsville 13-1 in high school softball action on Monday.
Taylor County scored single runs in the second and fourth innings on an RBI double by Kaylin Hughes and a run-scoring single by Brenna Beams.
The Lady Cardinals increased their lead to 4-0 in the fifth on singles by Shelby Carney and Courtney Hunt around a double by Haley Franklin.
CHS scratched in the bottom of the fifth when Destiny Wilson singled and came home on Tiffany Slone’s double. (Wilson had the Lady Eagles’ only other hit in the first.)
TCHS scored its first run in the sixth on Franklin’s bases-loaded walk and then added an RBI-single from Hunt and a two-run double by Hughes before a sacrifice fly by Beams and run-scoring singles by Haley Wright, Hannah Milby and Jenna Tungate.
Karissa Mings struck out seven in her four-inning mound stint for Taylor County while Becca Orberson fanned five in her two-inning effort.
Milby and Carney paced the 15-hit TCHS attack with three hits apiece while Franklin, Hunt and Hughes each had two.
