The Central Kentucky Arts Series announces the third performance of the 2008-2009 season, the Southern Illinois University Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Susan Davenport.
The choir will perform Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The choir, selected by audition, is composed of students in the music department as well as students with extensive choral expertise.
The concert choir performs at a variety of venues throughout the year including high schools, colleges and public arenas. Annually the concert choir performs two masterworks concerts, most recently performing Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana."
Davenport is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Randy Davenport of Campbellsville. Her father is a former president of Campbellsville University.
Davenport had a successful career in the public school system before beginning her collegiate teaching. She holds degrees in music education from Campbellsville University and Western Kentucky University and a doctor of musical arts in choral conducting from Texas Tech University. She has worked collaboratively with the Dublin, Ireland Gaiety School of Acting. She has composed music for several dramatic productions and has been published in the "Choral Journal," the national publication for the American Choral Director's Association.
In addition to directing the concert choir, Davenport conducts the Chamber Singers and the Choral Union. She teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting, choral literature and arranging as well as administering the choral program. Choruses and choirs, directed by Davenport, have performed in multiple locations across the United States, most notably at Carnegie Hall in May 2005.
