Cards lose three turnovers, can't score a second-half TD

By Bobby Brockman

Taylor County could not tally a second-half touchdown and dropped its district opener to visiting Marion County 21-15 on Friday night.
The Cardinals tied the game at 7-7 on Dylan Bright’s 65-yard burst up the middle with 1:37 left in the first quarter.
After the Knights went up 14-7 in the second frame, Taylor County used a 48-yard drive to move within 14-13 when Hunter Christie sneaked in from a yard out with 27.7 seconds left before intermission. TCHS’ two-point run failed.
Marion County head coach Jeff Robbins was ejected from the game and the Knights were assessed two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties at the half.
The Cardinals took advantage of the field situation, kicking off from the Marion 30 and the Knights started from their own 5-yard line.
A Knight sweep was caught in the backfield by Cards’ Cody Bast for a safety, putting Taylor County up 15-14.
However, Marion County scored what proved to be the game-winning TD with 8:57 left in the third on QB Hayden Taylor’s 28-yard sprint around left end.
Taylor County fumbled with 1:15 remaining and the Knights ran out the clock on kneel downs.
Taylor County (4-2) hosts Lexington Catholic (5-1) this Friday.
