Gary Valentine has been appointed as new project manager for the Ohio River Bridges Project.

An Elizabethtown engineer, Valentine will replace Matt Bullock, who has served as the state's interim project manager since May 2007, after the previous manager retired.

Valentine, who started the job on Sept. 2, will be the state's chief representative on a committee of Kentucky, Indiana and federal officials overseeing the $4.1 billion plan to build two new Ohio River bridges and redesign the Spaghetti Junction interchange in Louisville.

Valentine has worked in the state Transportation Cabinet's Elizabethtown district since 1990, after graduating from the University of Kentucky.

Transportation Secretary Joe Prather made the appointment.

Valentine is the son of Chester and Lula Beauchamp Valentine of Elizabethtown. His father is a 1956 graduate of Taylor County High School.
