A Campbellsville man has been accused of bringing drugs into the Taylor County Detention Center as he was being booked on a shoplifting charge.

Joseph Keith Wooley, 30, of 406 Underwood St. was arrested at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

According to Wooley's arrest citation, he allegedly stole items at Kroger in Green River Plaza. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking less than $300.

When Wooley was brought to the Taylor County Detention Center, according to court records, another inmate told jail staff that Wooley had pills in a plastic bag.

After a search, jail staff found the pills and charged Wooley with first-degree promoting contraband, a Class D felony punishable by as much as five years in prison.

Wooley pleaded not guilty to the charges in Taylor District Court on April 27.

Bond was set at 10 percent of $10,000 and Wooley was appointed a public defender. He was ordered to not consume any alcohol or drugs or have contact with Kroger.

Wooley is scheduled to appear in court again Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
