A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with assault and other charges after he allegedly beat another man with a baseball bat.

George W. McNear, 28, of Purcell Court, Lot 4, was arrested at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.

According to McNear's arrest citation, he allegedly went to an ex-girlfriend's home and then left when he realized the girl was with another man. The citation states that McNear returned to the Purcell Court residence with a baseball bat and allegedly hit the man in the head, back and arm.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, the citation states, and had a large cut on the top of his head.

McNear's ex-girlfriend told police that McNear had also hit her on the forearm with the bat.

The citation states McNear left the home and smashed the windows of his ex-girlfriend's vehicle.

McNear, according to court records, told police that his ex-girlfriend had called him and asked him to come over. He also told police he had not hit her.

McNear was charged with second-degree burglary, second- and fourth-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Taylor District Court on Friday, Oct. 10.

Bond was set at $5,000 cash. He was appointed a public defender and ordered to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend. He will next appear in court Monday, Oct. 20.

Campbellsville Police Officer Shannon Wilson investigated.
