Area high school students can get an early start on college by enrolling in select classes this spring at Lindsey Wilson College. And area senior citizens can take select courses at the college for free.
LWC's 2012 spring semester begins on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Qualified high school seniors can select up to two classes from six being offered from Lindsey Wilson. Qualified high school students can also take online courses from Lindsey Wilson.
In addition to giving students a head start on college, the courses also help students save money. The cost for each three-hour course is $180.
"I am pleased Lindsey Wilson offers a range of dual-credit courses to high school students this semester," said Lindsey Wilson Vice President of Academic Affairs Bettie Starr. "These courses allow students to engage in college-level learning and earn credits toward a college degree while they are still in high school. It's a great opportunity."
Courses offered to this spring to high school students are:
♦ Public Speaking from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday and Thursday.
♦ Intermediate French, online.
♦ Principles of Psychology from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
♦ Christian Beliefs from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
♦ Principles of Sociology, online.
♦ Elementary Spanish II from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Area residents who are 62 years or older are eligible to take one of four classes offered by LWC's Christian ministries program. There is no cost to take a class, although students must pay for books and any supplies for the class.
The four Christian ministry courses offered this spring are part of the LWC Senior Scholars Program, which allows area citizens who are 62 years or older to take one undergraduate class at no tuition expense. The Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees created the Senior Scholars program as a way to show the college's appreciation to the region's senior citizens.
The spring Senior Scholars classes are:
♦ Christian Beliefs from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
♦ Old Testament from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
♦ New Testament from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
♦ World Religions from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
